Ebay Honors MYF with "Golden Ribbon" Award for Non-profit
Last week MYF was awarded the "2008 Golden Ribbon Award" from Ebay.com! It's a pretty significant honor for our 'lil foundation and we are very thankful to Ebay. Out of many thousands of non-profits they work with, they chose us. So of course when someone honors us they are by extension honoring YOU, the fan, since you make all this possible. If you're at this website reading this, then you share a piece of this award below. Take your right hand, extend it toward your back/shoulder area, and pat.

Now here's all the press release type stuff...official wording and what not.

Mike visits CERN in Geneva

(from Mike)
On June 13th I had the honor of visiting the Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Bryan Cox, Renilde Vanden Broeck, and a few other super-cool physicists there were kind enough to give me a special tour of two of the particle detectors (ATLAS, and CMS) I can honestly say that this was one of the most incredible things i have ever seen in my entire life. The pictures can do absolutely no justice in showing how truly massive this machine is. The LHC is going to lead to hugely monumental discoveries in physics in the next few years, and will dramatically change our common view of reality. I can't wait.
Read the CERN bulletin about Mike's visit:
Mike Einziger, lead guitarist with the rock band Incubus, visited CERN on Friday 13 June between concerts in Finland and England. Einziger, a lifelong science enthusiast descended into the ATLAS and CMS caverns and visited the SM18 test magnet facility during his brief tour of CERN.

The official death toll climbed past 12,000 in Sichuan province, where emergency workers reached the epicenter of the massive quake as night fell. The number appeared certain to rise far higher as rescue and recovery efforts moved forward....

Evolution: The forbidden Love Triangle Between Faith, Science and Charles Darwin

Featured article in "Malibu Magazine"
.....For example: What do a rock star and a biology professor have in common? It would appear that they have nothing in common. But when that rock star is Mike Einziger and that professor is Dr. Ken Miller, they stretch far beyond the boundaries of the labels attached to them, and on one fundamental point of interest they actually intersect: evolution.
Let’s be quite clear: Labels exist for a reason. Miller is the archetypal professor par excellence. He has held teaching posts at two Ivy League universities, and is one of the world’s leading authorities on evolution. However, Miller is also that very rare “cool professor” who students can relate to and approach. Not only does he dress more casually than they do, but he also lacks the pretension and stuffiness endemic in academia. Within the scientific community, he is one of only a few figures who have bridged the enormous gulf between “science” and “humanity,” and this has earned him a sort of rock star status in the public realm.

Incubus Lightens Environmental Impact
Incubus - Greenbase
JULY, 2007
The U.S. Incubus tour is in full swing and so is the MYF greening campaign! We've put a lot of thought and research into the best way to neutralize the carbon from our tour this year as well as how we can create tools for the Incubus fans to contribute as well. Here's what we've come up with:
Incubus is working with the Sustainable Minded Artists Recording and Touring (SMART) program to lessen their environmental impact by overhauling their touring operations from fuel use to fan t-shirts.
The SMART program aims to immediately and dramatically reduce the environmental impact of music industry operations, transform these operations to a status quo of sustainability, and set the music industry standard in greening initiatives. Incubus is working with SMART to:
- Reduce CO2 emissions by fuelling tour vehicles with biodiesel and reducing vehicle idling at venues
- Offset the tour's remaining emissions via carbon dioxide offsets through NativeEnergy
- Use sustainable goods and services including organic food, organic cotton merchandise, and 100% recycled paper
- Reduce waste by using less disposables and working with venues to increase recycling
- Encouraging fans to take action by providing information at shows, selling fan offsets, and facilitating tabling by environmental groups including Heal The Bay, Surfrider Foundation, The Ocean Conservancy, and Environmental Defense Fund
Also, if you attend a show in the U.S. this year you can purchase a special Incubus sticker night of show for $3 and the money from that sticker will be donated to companies that research alternative energy!!
On the back of the sticker you'll see this:
"By purchasing this sticker, you have made an investment in the same renewable energy project that Incubus has! For each sticker, you will join Incubus in preventing an estimated 300 lbs. of C02 from entering the atmosphere through NativeEnergy.
This is based on the expected lifetime carbon offset output of a new wind farm/farm methane project the purchase of this sticker helps build.
All carbon offsets represented by this sticker are donated to Clean Air-Cool Planet for retirement. "
Check out the page we've created at Native Energy that tells you more about how you can offset your own carbon footprint
So when you're at the Incubus show, go to the merch booth and help make our earth carbon neutral!!

SURFRIDER FOUNDATION CELEBRITY SURF JAM
HITS THE WAVES JUNE 10, 2006
Huntington Beach, CA (April 17, 2006) ñ The Surfrider Foundation and Propaganda Headquarters announced today that their wildly successful Celebrity Surf Jam will once again be returning to the world famous Huntington Beach Pier on June 10th, 2006. This thrilling and one-of-a-kind event brings together a host of stars from the world of music, entertainment and sports, to compete alongside the world's top professional surfers and Surfrider Foundation volunteers from across the county.
Returning hosts Pat O'Connell and Sal Masekela are joined this year by Incubus singer Brandon Boyd.
ìMy friends and I have grown up surfing in California and we try to do everything we can to preserve the beaches and oceans that have afforded us the opportunity to surf,î says Boyd. ìThrough our band, Incubus, we've been lucky enough to raise funds to donate to The Surfrider Foundation in the past. Celebrity Surf Jam is just one more way I can help raise awareness for need to protect our coastal environments.î
In addition to bringing together celebrities, pros and activists, Surf Jam is unique due its utilization of the National Surf League's revolutionary competitive format - The Game; which pits teams of surfers against each other in an exciting fast-paced match that includes quarters, time-outs and substitutions.

Incubus is proud to announce their involvement with Amnesty USA's 'Make Some Noise' Concert benefiting Darfur. Members of Incubus (Brandon, Mike and Ben) will be performing a rare ACOUSTIC set on Sat. April 29 at Roseland in Portland, OR. Other bands performing that evening are Collective Soul, Suzanne Vega and others. The evening will be hosted by Mira Sorvino, the Ambassador for Amensty's Worldwide 'Stop Violence Against Women' campaign.
This event will be limited as the venue holds only 1,400 people. Tickets will be on sale soon, keep checking the Amnesty USA site for details!
A brief message from Mira Sorvino regarding the 'Make Some Noise' concert (taken from a larger email concerning the below actrocities):
"A year and a half ago, I traveled to Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. to speak out against the atrocities committed against black African villagers in Darfur, Sudan by local Arab militias, the Janjawid, armed by the Sudanese government in Khartoum.* I met with several members of Congress, all committed to getting our government to pressure Khartoum to stop the terrible ethnic cleansing, which had already claimed 100,000 civilian lives. Their brutal techniques include slaughtering children in front of their mothers and systematically raping women for days in "rape huts" when the women leave their displaced persons camps looking for water and firewood. U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan had called the Janjawid's government-backed campaign a "scorched earth policy," verified by aerial photos of decimated villages."
I am very thrilled to announce that Amnesty has agreed to fulfill my dream of a concert to benefit the Darfur victims and raise awareness about the issue. It will be held in conjunction with their annual conference in Portland, Oregon on the weekend of April 29th. It is being called "Make Some Noise for Darfur," as part of Amnesty's much vaunted musical activism program."

About The Painted Turtle:
The Painted Turtle is the sixth addition to Paul Newmanís family of Hole in the Wall Gang Camps for seriously ill children. It is also the only multi-disease camp and family care center of its kind on the West Coast. Through educational, therapeutic, safe, and just plain fun summer camp and year-round programs, The Painted Turtle provides a life-changing experience to children whose daily struggles often diminish both their desire to be well and their ability to lead a rich, productive life.

Incubus Announces 'Make Yourself Foundation' Grants for 2005
Thursday January 13, 8:04 am ET
Band Donates $100,000 to the American Red Cross
NEW YORK, Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Grammy award nominated rock band Incubus today announced a number of donations today through their non-profit organization, the Make Yourself Foundation. At the top of the list, the band is donating $100,000 to the American Red Cross Tsunami Relief Fund. Founded in 2004 by the band, the Make Yourself foundation was established to donate funds to various charities which are listed on the Make Yourself Foundation website (http://www.makeyourselffoundation.org). In its first year, the Foundation raised an astounding $400, 000 through Incubus' music-related activities while the band toured around the world.
When sitting down to decide how to best allocate the funds, the massive tsunami hit Asia, altering the band's initial plan. The band explains, "We started the MYF as a vehicle to try and help people who have not been as fortunate as us. Last year we spent the year raising money and bringing attention to a number of worthy causes. When we sat down in December to allocate the money, we had no idea of the disaster that was about to happen. The magnitude of the tsunami disaster is truly overwhelming and we can only hope that this donation can help bring some relief to the people who've been affected by it."
In addition to the Tsunami relief effort The Make Yourself Foundation will be making donations to the following organizations.
The Red Cross
Future Forests
International Rett Syndrome Association
The Painted Turtle
Surfrider Foundation
Operation Smile
Heal The Bay
Institute of Music and Neurologic Function
Sweet Relief
Save the Music
Break the Cycle
The band is planning more charitable related music projects this year.

More about Incubus' forest:
All Future Forests' dedicate-a-tree schemes are part of our climate change programme: you're supporting our planting partners with their forestry programmes, and helping to get more people and businesses to take practical steps to tackle global warming. If you want to get involved, why not dedicate a tree in the same forest that Incubus is helping to support. They are helping by dedicating trees in the Isuna Forest in Bhutan.

Incubus donates books to soldiers
